Judith Maynard asked: A homemade colon cleanse, from the name sounds really medical. However, in reality, it is much more simple after the initial hurdles are crossed and after one gains confidence with a straightforward detoxification plan. For the layman, the colon is the last part of the alimentary canal or the route which the eaten food takes after entering the body. It is through this small tract that the food (now waste) finally leaves the body and its healthiness ensures the well being of the person. One needs to keep it particularly in good shape as important physiological processes are associated with the colon.
These facts are quite enough to make even the laziest of men go in for a homemade colon cleanse. But then how does one go about doing a personal treatment, this is the main issue. Speaking more traditionally, several people have opted for natural ways only like eating proper food and not going in for junk food binges like burgers, pizzas and chips. Then another popular method to keep the tract clean is through the constant use of natural herbs and plants, especially those which have been mentioned in the ancient Indian medicinal systems and other oriental medical practices. Ayurveda is one really upcoming alternative to natural cure and is already sought by more than a hundred thousand people in Europe alone. Apart from these methods, there are several other man made procedures which are equally popular and these include enemas, colon cleansing kits, simple pills to loosen the parts or a medical session. But which is the best? This question is purely subjective and depends from person to person. An ***** may suit a gentleman more than a lady who would prefer to go in for a more pill oriented or herbal approach which is not so difficult.
Before actually divulging into the precise details of the procedures which are involved, a few medical facts will perhaps make this remedy a more interesting and important one, even to the casual reader. The Royal Society of Medicine in the United Kingdom states that over ninety percent of chronic ailments are due to a malfunctioning gastrointestinal tract and these ailments can be treated effectively. According to a survey by a major English University, almost 5 million people in Europe and more than a 100 million Americans suffer from at least one kind of digestive disorder or sickness in the gastrointestinal tract. Infection in the alimentary canal is very common across all the people in the world no matter what their nationality. Many doctors believe that this is purely the result of improper eating habits which then meddles with the natural digestion processes. Another disturbing fact which was highlighted by this survey was that at least one in twenty of them would later develop rectal or colonic cancer and if the eating trends continued, this figure could rise by as much as a factor of four. Apart from this, many believe that there is a parasite residing inside the intestines of one in six men and one in ten women. A very common fact also states that there is more than two pounds of fecal matter stored in the colon out of the average four pounds that it stored and if the person does not take proper measures to have it cleaned, he could face many difficulties. Therefore, such a cleanse, it seems, is much more important than you first thought. Together with the fact that with this you can easily perform the process in the comfort and privacy of your home, it is highly beneficial.

Groshan Fabiola asked: Cancer is the name for a disease that can affect cells from all the organs and body’s structures and is considered to be life threatening. Cancer determines cells to divide in an uncontrollable way. Generally the cells of the body divide only when needed, like when they grow old and other cells need to be produced in order to replace them or when they are in a small amount and the body needs more of them.
Because the cells are produced in an increased number, a mass of unknown tissue will form, known as a tumor (this tumor can be benign or malign).
The benign form of the tumor is considered not to be harmful. It can be easily removed and will not spread to other organs. The possibility for this tumor to reappear is much reduced.
The malign form of the tumor is also known as cancer and is considered to be a threat to life. It can affect organs that are situated near the tumor and it can also get into the bloodstream or lymphatic system and reach other organs creating new tumors in the whole body. This is known as metastasis. The secondary disease will be named after the primary disease, because the metastatic cancerous cells have the same structure with the basic tumor cells.
Taking colon cancer for an example, if the colon cancer cells spread toward the liver and affect it, the liver disease will be called metastatic colon cancer.
In the whole world, colon cancer is the third leading cause of cancer in males and the fourth in women. It is quite rare in Asia and Africa but you can find it frequently in the Western world. Those who have adopted western diets are at risk to develop colorectal cancer. Doctors believe that this type of cancer is developing from polyps situated in the large intestine (colon and rectum are a part of the large intestine). These polyps are considered to be benign but left untreated for years they can transform in malign tumors. The polyps can be removed easily during a colonoscopy performed by the doctor.
Colorectal cancer can affect nearby structures and can even get into the bloodstream or lymphatic system and spread towards liver and lungs where it will produce another tumor. If metastasis has occurred, the hope of treatment efficiency is considered to have reduced drastically.

katygraham1 asked: I have a friend who was last week diagnosed with stage four cancer, that started in her colon and spread to her ovaries, liver and parts of her stomach. She is a 23 year old young beautiful girl! How does this happen to such a young person? Cancer really is a silent killer – she had no idea until she collapsed in an airport last week. I would like to know what the survival chances are for stage 4 cancer victims?? =(

Groshan Fabiola asked: 1. What is colorectal cancer?
Cancer is the name for a disease that can affect cells from all the organs and body’s structures and is considered to be life threatening. The colon and rectum are a part of the large intestine and their function is to absorb nutrients and water from the food that passes through the intestine before it goes out of the body. Colorectal cancer is the disease that affects the cells from the colon and rectum creating a malign or benign tumor.
2. How can I know if I have colorectal cancer?
Some of the symptoms of this type of cancer are: diarrhea alternating with constipation and the feeling that the bowel has not emptied completely even after going to the bathroom. Also, seeing blood in the stool can be a clue for colorectal cancer. Abdominal pains and bloating can be present and feeling tiredness and vomiting can occur too.
These symptoms also appear in other affections and having them does not necessarily mean that you have colorectal cancer. A doctor will be able to diagnose your affection by performing some quick tests.
3. Why does colorectal cancer appear?
Scientists have not found out exactly why this disease occurs but they believe that if you follow a diet that is rich in proteins and fats and low in fiber you might develop cancer. Also, having a family history of colorectal cancer and ****** or uterus cancer could be a risk for you. Drinking alcohol is also a factor that leads to cancer. If you have polyps on the inner wall of the intestine and you leave them untreated they can transform into malign tumors (meaning that cancer had occurred).
4. What data exist about the frequency of colorectal cancer?
In the whole world, colon cancer is the third leading cause of cancer in males and the fourth in women. It is quite rare in Asia and Africa but you can find it frequently in the Western world. Those who have adopted western diets are at risk to develop colorectal cancer.
Scientist believe that in the close future 1 or 2 people out of every 100 will develop colorectal cancer after the age of 50.
Until now, 4 out of 10 patients are diagnosed with cancer only after their disease had advanced to a next stage, meaning that treatment options will not be available in such a large number and probably the most indicated procedure will be surgery. Only in a small number of cases patients will require drug treatment.
5. How can colorectal cancer be treated?
Treating cancer is made after staging the disease, meaning that the doctors will try to find out how much the cancer has spread.
The most indicated procedure is surgery because it removes the tumor. In some cases the tumor will not reappear. Sometimes, during the surgery the doctor will be forced to perform a colostomy.
If the cancer has spread, chemotherapy or radiation therapy will be recommended because it will kill the cancerous cells and will stop them from dividing and spreading even more.

Groshan Fabiola asked: After researchers discovered another colon cancer gene, the second so far, they concluded that they have found the causes of over 90 percent of the disease in its inherited form.
Every year 156,000 people are diagnosed with colon cancer and six of those cases are caused by those two genes together. In the same time, around 30 percent of non inherited cases are caused by these two genes of colon cancer.
It is expected that in the near future researchers will come out with some new tests to identify the presence of these genes in an individual and if either one of these is found, doctors can do tumor checks more frequently permitting them to discover them earlier while they can still be surgically removed. With this new knowledge it is assumed that over 90 percent of all that cases caused by inherited colon cancer can be evoited.
Researchers are confident that this new discovery will lead to new anticancer drugs in a very short time period, a period of two to five years.
The genes are found on different chromosomes, but both of them act almost in the same way, being just like a guardian checking every new piece of synthesized DNA to make sure that no mutations appeared. But, if one of these genes is corrupted the new synthesized DNA pieces will be altered really bad and you will develop cancer as a result. Usually inherited cancer appears at the age of 50.
Thanks to these new discoveries new screening tests will be available for the general population. Most specialists agree that this is a huge step for the medical science resulting in the saving of countless lives and a great cost reduction in the medical system.
One of these genes is present in about 1 every 200 people all around the world making it the number one genetic defect. Screening will save a huge amount of lives but researchers already raise economic concerns regarding the medical health care; it may be possible that future agencies will deny the right to a health insurance just on the reason that a client presents a higher risk because he has one of these genes.
